Advanced Technologies

We constantly strive to provide our patients with the finest dental care available. Our investment in advanced technology means a long-term investment in your future. State-of-the-art technology invites informed decision-making and enables our patients to make wise choices concerning their oral health. Dr. Scherer offers the latest technology for your benefit.

Endodontic Microscope: The use of this tool enables Dr. Scherer to perform treatment with greater accuracy because the treatment area is magnified – periodontal fibers and ligaments are illuminated and fractures or root defects can be seen. Attached to our microscope is an intra-oral camera. This high-powered camera allows Dr. Scherer to quickly and precisely photograph the inside of your mouth. The photographic image is magnified and projected onto a monitor which gives you the ability to participate in your treatment.

Digital X-ray: This allows us to use the latest technology to better diagnose your tooth's health, while greatly minimizing the amount of x-ray exposure you may have to experience.
Not only are you saved from the x-ray exposure, the image of your x-ray is displayed on a screen in front of you and you are better able to understand where the problem is and why treatment might be recommended.

3D Imaging: Cone beam computed tomography or CBCT is a recently developed imaging system now adapted well for endodontic diagnosis and treatment planning. Similar to a CT scan at a hospital, the cone beam allows the viewer to see the teeth and related jaw structures in the limited are of the scan, in three dimensions. The RVG 9000, the unit we have is similar to other CBCT machines. The machine is like PANO imaging machine when the patient stands or sits and the imaging system spins around the head. With CBCT, the radiation is cone shape and focus only on the teeth of interest. Multiple areas can be viewed on one wishes but with endodontics we often are focused on one small area. The resolution of 3D imaging is CBCT has improved much in the past five years to a point where endodontics can benefit greatly. The cost to the patient if we don't use it is the main concern for dentists. Having the tool, knowing what it can show us and not using it can cost the patient lingering discomfort, delaying healing, persisting pain and potential tooth loss. My thoughts are to use CBCT as often as it may benefit your patients.
